OUR PROCESS

Baseline Energy Assessment

The first step in any energy transformation journey with Sangamon Solar, whether for a commercial or residential client, is a comprehensive Baseline Energy Assessment. This assessment consists of two key components, both initiated during our initial site visit.

1. Energy Monitoring Installation:
A Sangamon Solar specialist will install an energy monitor in your property. Over the next two weeks, this device will gather detailed data on your energy usage patterns. This information includes:

  • Energy Consumption Patterns: When and how energy is used most frequently.

  • High-Consumption Appliances and Systems: Identifying which systems or devices contribute most to your energy bill.

  • Overall Energy Insights: Understanding your unique energy profile to help inform cost-saving recommendations

2. Thermal Imaging Assessment:
Also during the initial visit, our team will conduct a thermal imaging scan to identify areas for energy efficiency improvements. This non-invasive analysis highlights:

  • Poorly Sealed Areas: Detects gaps where energy loss occurs, such as windows and door frames.

  • Insulation Needs: Identifies areas where added insulation could lower heating and cooling costs.

  • Targeted Efficiency Improvements: Reveals specific opportunities to improve comfort and reduce costs.

  • Through this dual approach, Sangamon Solar can offer tailored, actionable recommendations for reducing energy consumption, optimizing comfort, and achieving long-term savings.

2. Goal-Setting Report
Using the insights gathered from your Baseline Energy Assessment, Sangamon Solar will work with you to establish realistic energy reduction goals tailored to your home or business. Based on your unique energy profile, we’ll identify feasible targets that balance cost, energy savings, and sustainability impact.

Typical energy reduction goals range between 10% and 30%, influenced by factors such as your property type, existing systems, and the scope of recommended upgrades. This report will outline achievable targets and lay the foundation for the next steps in your energy efficiency journey, empowering you to make meaningful progress toward reduced consumption and lower costs.

3. Strategy Report
With clear goals set through the Goal-Setting Report, Sangamon Solar will develop a tailored Strategy Report outlining actionable steps to achieve your energy reduction targets. This report provides a roadmap of recommended improvements across key building systems, with strategies designed to maximize efficiency and minimize costs. Suggested upgrades may include:

  • Lighting Upgrades: Transitioning to energy-efficient LED lighting and installing occupancy sensors to reduce energy waste.

  • HVAC System Improvements: Enhancing HVAC performance through regular maintenance, zoning controls, and optimal thermostat settings.

  • Building Envelope Enhancements: Improving insulation, sealing air leaks, and adding weatherproofing to reduce energy loss.

  • Smart Plugs and Controls: Implementing automated controls for lighting and appliances based on occupancy and usage patterns.

  • Daylighting Strategies: Leveraging natural light to reduce dependency on artificial lighting, where feasible.

  • Employee Awareness Campaigns: Engaging employees in energy-saving practices, such as turning off lights and equipment when not in use.

  • Each recommendation in the Strategy Report is tailored to your unique energy profile and goals, providing a practical, step-by-step plan for creating a more energy-efficient environment.

4. Action Plan
With a clear strategy in place, Sangamon Solar will guide you through the process of putting your energy-saving plan into action. We will develop a detailed Implementation Plan that includes:

  • Customized Strategies for Implementation: Tailoring each step to your property’s specific needs, we’ll outline actionable strategies to ensure seamless integration of recommended upgrades.

  • Project Timelines: Establishing realistic timelines for each phase, ensuring that improvements are completed efficiently with minimal disruption.

  • Ongoing Progress Monitoring: Tracking each stage to ensure all milestones are met, while evaluating energy savings to verify the impact of upgrades.

  • Working alongside our network of trusted local subcontractors, we’ll oversee every aspect of the implementation to guarantee smooth execution of each approved recommendation, helping you reach your energy efficiency goals effectively and on schedule.

5. Incentives
There are numerous state and federal incentives available for both residential and commercial property owners. These programs are designed to enhance the payback period of investments in property improvements, such as energy efficiency upgrades and renewable energy installations.

Residential

  • Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit (25C)

    • This tax credit covers up to 30% of the cost for various energy-efficient upgrades, such as new windows, doors, insulation, and HVAC systems.

  • High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Program

    • Part of the IRA, this rebate offers income-based support for low- to moderate-income households to make home improvements that reduce energy usage.

  • ComEd and Ameren Energy Efficiency Programs

    • ComEd and Ameren Illinois offer rebates on a range of energy-efficient products and services for homeowners, including rebates for HVAC upgrades, smart thermostats, insulation, lighting, and more.

Commercial

  • Section 179D Tax Deduction (Energy-Efficient Commercial Buildings)

    • A tax deduction of up to $5.00 per square foot for commercial buildings that improve their energy efficiency by a set percentage.

  • Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Systems

    • A tax credit of up to 10% for installing combined heat and power systems, which generate both electricity and useful thermal energy from a single source.

  • Business Energy Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for Renewable and Efficient Systems

    • A credit of up to 30% of the cost of qualified energy-efficient systems, like fuel cells, microturbines, and small wind turbines.

  • Accelerated Depreciation via Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS)

    • Allows businesses to depreciate energy-efficient equipment and renewable energy systems faster, usually over a period of five years.

All backed by our built-in 5 year labor warranty, 10 year roof warranty, and 15 years of Monitoring, Sangamon Solar is the company to make your vision a reality.
